Our Story

I'm Tracy Crisp the new owner of The Indie Stitches Emporium. Sewing, knitting and stitching have always been part of my life, and now I'm living my dream of creating an old-fashioned haberdashery (but with a modern, online twist).

"What is not to love about making your own clothes or handmade gifts for friends?"

It's a way to say no to fast fashion, and no to bland corporations. It's a chance to slow down and lose yourself in the meditative process. It's an opportunity to create something that is truly one of kind, that makes you feel good every time you wear it and someone asks 'did you make that?'

"When I'm stocking the shelves of The Indie Stitches Emporium I look for small businesses and independent designers who share my approach to life, who are thinking about the ways we live and the choices we make."

My focus is on well-made tools that are lovely to use and that help you achieve a beautiful result.

Whether you're just getting started or you've been sewing for years, The Indie Stitches Emporium is a treasure trove of indie patterns, magical notions and practical tools for people who love sewing and stitching.

Thanks for visiting, it's great to have you here!

What's Inside the Indie Stitches Emporium?

When Indie Stitches opened in 2016, it was one of the first Australian online stores to focus on patterns by independent designers.

When you enter The Indie Stitches Emporium in 2024, you'll find The Pattern Counter is still at the heart of the store. Here we continue to stock one of Australia's most comprehensive collections of independent pattern designers.

But besides our patterns, we are now also bringing you an eclectic selection of beautiful sewing and stitching supplies sourced from around the world. So when you've finished flicking through the patterns at The Pattern Counter, wander over to The Haberdashery for all your essentials (plus all those things you never knew you needed!).

In another corner of the store I'm building The Stitchery where you'll find a curated (and growing) collection of stitching and needlework supplies. We've started with some beautiful embroidery kits, but check back often because I've got lots of plans for this corner of the store. Next to that is The Bookshop with some carefully chosen books and manuals for beginners and more experienced sewers.

And before you leave don't forget to check out The Miscellany, where it's not patterns, not haberdashery, not quite notions--but it is sewing, and it's definitely fun.

Wander around and explore every corner of The Indie Stitches Emporium. Check back often, because I'm unpacking new deliveries all the time.
